Your role as a mentor

As a mentor, you are responsible for coaching your early career teacher(s). This role involves guiding your teacher(s) through the programme with weekly observations and instructional coaching sessions. Your role is vital to help teachers make the best possible start to their careers and apply their learning in your school’s unique context.

We will support you to do this by providing mentor training for all new mentors. It's your responsibility to attend and engage in the training provided to help both you and your early career teacher benefit from the programme. We hope you find the training useful and enjoy the programme.

How to register (for those employed by independent schools):

To do this, they must reach out to a local delivery partner to establish a partnership for the academic year. Unlike at state-funded schools, ECTs and mentors should not be registered on the DfE portal. Instead, your delivery partner should register ECTs and mentors on their system. Then, the registrations will pull through to our system. Please check with your induction tutor that they have initiated the registration process.
