Ambition announces more founding partners for Teacher Training

March 28, 2023

We are pleased to announce five new founding partners on our inaugural Teacher Training programme.

Our new partners are:

  • Active Learning Trust, a family of primary, secondary, all-through and special schools in Cambridgeshire and Suffolk.
  • Dixons Academies Trust, a multi academy trust with ten secondary academies, three primaries, two all through academies and a sixth form academy serving the communities of West Yorkshire and the North West.
  • Eden Academy Trust, a multi academy trust with four primary schools across Hartlepool and Durham.
  • Learning in Harmony Trust, a multi academy trust that currently consists of ten schools across London and Essex.
  • The Sigma Trust, a multi academy trust with four primary and eight secondary schools in North East Essex.

Each partner brings crucial local knowledge and strong relationships in their communities and regions, and experience of delivering or hosting teacher training.

We are pleased to be supporting Active Learning Trust, Dixons Academies Trust, Eden Academy Trust, Learning in Harmony Trust, and Sigma Trust to grow their role in training new teachers in their regions.

They will be joining these previously announced founding partners on our inaugural Teacher Training programme:

  • Academy Transformation Trust
  • Cumbria Education Trust
  • Forward as One
  • Lime Trust
  • London District East Teaching School Hub
  • Teach Kent and Sussex

Together, we aspire to bring even more ambitious and committed teachers into the schools that need them the most and provide the best possible start to a fulfilling career in education.

As founding partners, they will help us develop our new training offer, contributing their expertise and experience so that trainee teachers can have an impact in their classrooms from the outset.

Many of these partners already work with us to deliver the Early Career Framework and National Professional Qualifications. Deepening and extending our partnership will provide schools in their networks with a golden thread of professional development across their teachers’ and school leaders’ careers.

Lyn Wright, Chief Executive Officer at The Sigma Trust said: “Children deserve high quality teaching. This partnership will be a fantastic opportunity to strengthen the teacher workforce and help with teacher retention. We will be producing exceptional teachers for all our schools within the local communities we serve. It’s not just a route into teaching. It’s the beginning of a professional development pathway for teachers, from their initial training through to their early years and into senior leadership.

“Partnering with Ambition makes perfect sense for continuity of that pathway.  We really value the deep research and educational theory that underpins Ambition’s materials and delivery. As a founding partner on Teacher Training, we are excited to help to shape the programme, to ensure a high level of learning for children.”

Judith Kidd, Director of the Dixons Centre for Growth at Dixons Academies Trust, said: “We are a talent-first organisation, and professional growth is a key part of that. We want to provide a thoughtful, rigorous learning experience for our people. New teachers and their mentors will benefit from progression that is secure and consistent, and intentional throughout their careers.

“Our mission and values are what drive us, and throughout our longstanding relationship, we have found that Ambition Institute mirrors that approach. Their support allows us to enhance our teacher education offer, forge a coherent development pathway beyond initial teacher training, but also provides the flexibility to include the things that are important to us in an innovative curriculum – for example the opportunity to prioritise equality, diversity, and inclusion.”

Hilary Spencer, chief executive of Ambition Institute, said: “A great teacher changes the future every day. Especially for children who’ve had a tough start in life, a teacher can be the critical factor in their success. That’s why every teacher should have access to high quality professional development from the very outset of their career and we are delighted to be extending our partnerships with these trusts to support this.

“Each of them is doing fantastic work to develop and support teachers and school leaders in their communities and we are pleased to welcome them as founding partners to our Teacher Training provision.”
