Ambition welcomes five new Teacher Training partners

March 3, 2023

We are pleased to be working with five new founding partners on our inaugural Teacher Training programme.

Our new partners are:

  • Academy Transformation Trust, a multi academy trust with 20 schools and one further education college across the West Midlands, Nottinghamshire and the East of England.
  • Cumbria Education Trust, a multi academy trust with 13 schools across the county.
  • Forward as One, a Church of England multi academy trust with 12 schools across the Greater Manchester region.
  • Lime Trust, a multi academy trust with eight primary and special schools across Cambridgeshire and North and East London.
  • London District East Teaching School Hub, responsible for 238 primary and secondary schools throughout the London boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Newham.

Each partner brings crucial local knowledge and strong relationships in their communities and regions, and experience of delivering or hosting teacher training.

London District East joins Teach Kent and Sussex as another founding partner with a well-established SCITT providing outstanding teacher training, and we are pleased to be supporting Academy Transformation Trust, Cumbria Education Trust, Forward as One and Lime Trust to grow their role in training new teachers in their regions.

Together, we aspire to bring even more ambitious and committed teachers into the schools that need them the most and provide the best possible start to a fulfilling career in education.

As founding partners, they will help us develop our new training offer, contributing their expertise and experience so that trainee teachers can have an impact in their classrooms from the outset.

Many of these partners already work with us to deliver the Early Career Framework and National Professional Qualifications. Deepening and extending our partnership will provide schools in their networks with a golden thread of professional development across their teachers’ and school leaders’ careers.

Elliot Costas-Walker, Director of Learning and Partnerships, Forward as One said:
“Our driver for leading initial teacher training (ITT) strategically is to enable the next generation of teachers to get the very best foundation for their career. We want to give them the best experience in our schools with real high quality training so that they can flourish. It's a commitment to the next generation of teachers. Our job is to make sure that we've got a sustainable workforce of people who are trained exceptionally well, who also want to be in that profession because they love teaching and learning.

“Partnering with Ambition makes absolute sense. Ambition empowers their delivery partners to deliver, and they do that exceptionally well. We will recruit high quality trainee teachers who believe in what Forward as One and Ambition believe in – keeping getting better and a commitment to making the biggest difference for disadvantaged pupils and disadvantaged communities.”

Kirsten Jowett, CEO of Lime Trust said: “We currently outsource ITT but we want to bring it in-house to deliver on our new people strategy. Having a highly skilled, professional and motivated workforce who feel they're being constantly developed means that you keep and grow them.

“Partnering with Ambition was a natural progression. We like the partnership model, we like the balance of the light touch but in-depth development for our teachers, and we value how Ambition distils research into the golden thread in a tangible, quality way. Being able to shape and bring views to the founding thinking behind Ambition’s Teacher Training is exciting.”

Hilary Spencer, chief executive of Ambition Institute, said: “We believe every teacher should have access to high quality professional development from the very outset of their career. We are delighted to be extending our partnerships with these trusts and teaching school hubs, who are doing excellent work to develop teachers and school leaders across the country. We look forward to working closely together to bring ambitious and committed teachers into the profession, and provide the best possible start to a fulfilling career in education, so that together we can make sure every child has the opportunity to succeed.”

More partners will be announced over the coming weeks.
