Launching Ambition Institute
March 12, 2019
March 11 marked the launch of Ambition Institute, a new graduate school that aims to help teachers, school leaders and system leaders to #KeepGettingBetter.
It was great to see that news of our launch made the front pages of Tes and Schools Week.
"At a time when we know that over a third of teachers leave the profession in the first five years of their career, we have to help teachers & school leaders develop their expertise & their careers in different ways" @MelanieRenowden quoted in @tes @geomr https://t.co/YplTJ5wQBN

Our interim CEO Melanie Renowden posted this blog on our website to mark day one as a new organisation.
And our Director of Marketing and Communications Rachel Cook published this blog sharing insights into the creative process behind the Ambition Institute brand.
“I am so proud to be leading this brand-new organisation and I’m excited to start addressing the biggest challenge (and opportunity) in the sector: educator development”: our interim CEO @MelanieRenowden https://t.co/KwvQHGKCwz

Baroness Sally Morgan, Ambition Institute's Chair of Trustees, shared the journey we've travelled to become Ambition Institute.
“The reason for ending up as Ambition Institute was because we wanted to maintain the moral mission of a charity but also the expertise of a university - this is a culmination of the two coming together but also something new” Baroness Morgan #keepgettingbetter
— Ambition Institute (@Ambition_Inst) March 11, 2019
Our interim CEO Melanie Renowden then gave guests full introduction to Ambition Institute. You can read more about our graduate school approach in Melanie's blog.
“Today we are Ambition Institute, we provide a unique graduate school approach which combines the mission focus of a charity, the academic rigour if a traditional university, and the essential classroom connection of a teaching school.” @MelanieRenowden pic.twitter.com/aTTpHKyeXX

Our mission is to help educators serving children from disadvantaged backgrounds to #keepgettingbetter. In this video, our CEO @MelanieRenowden explains why this is so important. Learn more about Ambition Institute here:

We were grateful to the Secretary of State for Education, Damian Hinds MP, for sending his support via video.

We then held a panel, fuelling lively debate from those on the floor and in the audience when we asked a series of questions around 'how do we keep getting better?'
An exciting evening with @Ambition_Inst discussing how we develop great teachers and leaders to support disadvantaged students #keepgettingbetter pic.twitter.com/m7vkg8tZL0

"When it comes to school leadership in particular, what are we doing right?" Our first question from @matthewhood #keepgettingbetter pic.twitter.com/TSMeQFxzws
— Ambition Institute (@Ambition_Inst) March 11, 2019
We wanted to spark a conversation about what makes great professional development...
“We want to challenge thinking around teaching and leadership but we also want to be challenged back in return because we all benefit from debate” @MelanieRenowden #keepgettingbetter
— Ambition Institute (@Ambition_Inst) March 11, 2019
... and our guests did not disappoint!
"Potential leaders are being discouraged by popular standards. School leadership should not be a club reserved from the extrovert and charismatic" @TomRees_77 pic.twitter.com/Sf4GwWOeoR
— Ambition Institute (@Ambition_Inst) March 11, 2019
@TomRees_77 outlining the language used to described leaders.
— Allana (@AllanaG13) March 11, 2019
Dynamic, inspirational, enthusiastic...
Are these the traits and values we need at the heart of our education subsystem?
What about thoughtful, knowledgeable leaders? #KeepGettingBetter
Always happy to oblige @matthewhood with an answer at the extreme. Gets the debate going. None of these on the fence @Rachel_deSouza answers...
— Dr Kate Chhatwal (@KateChhatwal) March 11, 2019
This is just the start of the conversation. We really value your input, so we can #KeepGettingBetter.
"A huge thank you to our panel. These are not hypothetical situations - the decisions we make really matter to the thousands of teachers and leaders we serve. Please do keep joining the conversation so we can #keepgettingbetter" @matthewhood pic.twitter.com/RbpuhJpzuI
— Ambition Institute (@Ambition_Inst) March 11, 2019
