What is the Transforming Teaching programme?
This one year whole-school transformation programme empowers your school or trust with the necessary tools to drive sustainable and measurable changes to teaching, learning and professional development. Transforming Teaching is unique as it offers tailored options to ensure you receive the professional development that is most suited to your context.
All training is delivered in a hybrid model. Training is provided across all levels: classroom teachers, middle leaders and senior leaders, to ensure that everyone learns together. Lastly, Ambition’s training leads will work with your school to understand your context and help diagnose highest leverage areas of focus.

> The full programme can provide training for all of your senior leadership team, up to four teacher educators and up to 30 high impact classroom teachers.
> The cost of the programme ranges from £17,500 to £24,200. Please completethis form for more information.

> We will help you develop capacity for the future, so you can improve CPD, teaching and learning, retention, progression opportunities, and ultimately, pupil outcomes.
A unique approach
> We always start with a school-visit to discuss the aims and structure of programme and expectations.
> In-depth support is provided through the year so you get frequent and comprehensive inputs.
> The programme has a core research-based curriculum combined with the option of one-to-one individual support that can be customised to meet the needs of your teacher educators.
> Ambition’s training leads will work with your school to understand your context and help diagnose your highest leverage areas of focus.
We provide access to an online diagnostic survey for your teachers and senior leaders to aid decision-making around which programme content works best for your school or trust.
The survey focuses around teachers’ views on behaviour, instructional practices, pupil learning, and responsive teaching.
Using the results from this all-staff survey, Ambition generate a unique diagnostic report that reveals key areas of strength and areas for development, sharing these with your school leaders to help tailor your programme experience around the highest leverage areas of focus.
Develop and retain staff
> Improve classroom teaching and learning across your school or trust.
> Improve retention by developing your staff in a meaningful way.
> Enrich your CPD offer for existing and future staff.
What you’ll learn
Transforming Teaching has three strands:
- Senior Leader strand – Senior Leaders will lead and enable the conditions for improvement.
- Teacher Educator strand – on-the ground leaders will plan, support and oversee improvement.
- High Impact Teacher strand – classroom teachers can enact change and implement improvement.
Senior Leader strand
This strand leads participants through the implementation process described in the Education Endowment Fund guide Putting Evidence to Work by Jonathan Sharples.
Senior leaders are supported by our experienced training leads to identify the most important development needs for the school. This is based on the school’s unique diagnostic report, symptoms that leaders observe in classrooms, and through triangulation of wider evidence. They are supported to choose a professional development response to roll out across the school or trust. Leaders are guided through the exploration, preparation, development and sustaining stages of an implementation.
Teacher Educator strand
This strand leads participants through the evidence-informed tools and knowledge required for high quality teacher education. It is delivered by our expert training leads through a mixture of one-to-one coaching and facilitated development days, to develop and improve their ability to design and deliver professional development in school.
High Impact Teacher strand
This strand provides support with core elements of teachers’ pedagogical practices such as classroom culture, routines for learning, motivation, modelling, consolidation, and others.

“The Transforming Teaching Programme has made a significant difference to all of the staff and students. Our teachers are more consciously competent practitioners in their classrooms with a good understanding of how students learn and what has the biggest impact on their students. Our teachers are more engaged in the latest educational research and most importantly, they can then apply this to the learning of the students in their classrooms."
Carene Spooner, Assistant Headteacher at Kinver High School
The programme helped us to completely shift our culture. Ofsted picked up on that and commented that − ‘Everyone loves to learn at Pennyhill Primary School’,” says Michelle. “Our school and staff are now confident, empowered and enlightened. Walk into the staffroom and you’ll overhear them talking about current research or retrieval practices and sharing what they’ve found works best in the classroom. They’re excited about teaching.
“And that filters through to the children. We’ve developed a climate for learning in which the children know it's okay to make mistakes. They’re confident now, and they’ve bought into learning. They can talk not only about what they’re learning, but how they’re learning.
