33 staff at Shelley College in Huddersfield have completed or facilitated a National Professional Qualification (NPQ).

The school’s executive principal Dave Wadsworth shares his insights on the transformative impact of having multiple staff complete an NPQ.

Watch the video to find out Dave's first-hand experience and how NPQs are shaping the future of education at the school.

Dave discusses how the NPQ programmes have helped develop teachers and leaders across Shelley College, which is part of SHARE Multi Academy Trust. Dave’s staff have taken NPQs ranging from specialist qualifications in behaviour and leading teaching to leadership qualifications for headship and senior leadership.

This has had a “positive impact across leadership and across teaching and learning in the classrooms”, Dave says. “And the feedback from staff has been very positive”.

Teacher and leaders have been able to “dig deeply into problems they face in their role and look at the research and evidence to form a good plan to address them”. They’ve been able to “focus on their priorities and become more confident, happier and more impactful in the classroom”, says Dave.

Having multiple staff doing NPQs means colleagues can “work together cohesively, share ideas and resources, and collaborate well using the fundamental principles that underpin the training”.

“Ultimately the impact on those on the young people in the classroom has been really positive” Dave adds.
