Hope and Ambition: Liverpool Hope University named as Ambition’s HEI partner for Initial Teacher Training

June 5, 2023

Ambition Institute has appointed Liverpool Hope University as its Higher Education Institute partner to validate and award the Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) for our new Teacher Training programme.

This brand new partnership is focussed on supporting new teachers at the start of their career.

Liverpool Hope University’s School of Education has been delivering teacher education courses since 1844 and is internationally recognised for excellence in research and teaching. Ambition Institute is a national education charity, and the largest provider of teacher education in England.

Ambition was awarded Initial Teacher Training accreditation from the Department for Education in 2022 and began a rigorous procurement process for our Higher Education partner at the end of last year.

During the highly competitive procurement process, Liverpool Hope University stood out because of its extensive experience in training teachers and considerable expertise in curriculum design.

Our partnership will be based on shared values and shared priorities. Strong support structures will be put in place for trainee teachers to support their wellbeing. Liverpool Hope University shapes our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and together we will ensure that our approach and implementation fosters greater inclusivity.

Professor Cate Carroll-Meehan, Dean of Liverpool Hope University’s School of Education, said: “Partnering with Ambition Institute is an important and exciting step forward for Liverpool Hope University.

“We are delighted they have recognised our long history in teacher education and their decision to appoint us as Higher Education Institute partner is testament to our strong reputation in delivering PGCE qualifications.

“Ambition share our commitment to providing excellent and inclusive teacher training, as well as the values which underpin that commitment, and we look forward to working with them to support and develop the next generation of teachers.”

Genevieve Field, Director of Initial Teacher Training at Ambition Institute, said: “We are delighted to welcome Liverpool Hope University as our newest strategic partner and excited to begin working together to offer Teacher Training. Liverpool Hope’s values and approach to teacher development are strongly aligned with ours and those of our teacher training partners across the country. They bring a track record of academic rigour, a wealth of experience in research-based teacher training, and a real focus on student and teacher wellbeing. We believe this partnership will help us deliver the highest calibre of assessment and student support to trainees entering the profession.”

We are now recruiting for our first cohort of trainees to start in 2024.
