Early career teacher mentor Lisa shares why supporting new teachers is one of the most fulfilling parts of her role. From seeing teachers like her mentee Gemma grow in confidence to watching their success recognised across the school.

For Lisa, mentoring early career teachers on our Early Career Training Programme is a rewarding experience. Watch this video to see why.

Lisa explains how she finds satisfaction in “unpicking the deliberate parts of what teaching looks like”. She enjoys guiding new teachers through the process of building their expertise one step at a time.

She values the way the programme breaks teaching down into manageable, focused actions: “I like the way that Ambition breaks it down into small steps, so they get to practise and refine over time.” This approach means she can support her mentees as they develop their skills gradually, gaining confidence with each success.

The best bit? It’s when “you get to see that teacher flourish when things start to work and then you see them taste their success – and you see that happen, hopefully, whilst you’re watching them.”

“I’ve really enjoyed it,” Lisa says, reflecting on how feels she’s been a part of Gemma’s growth and success as a new teacher.

The impact goes beyond the mentoring relationship too; there are whole-school benefits. “It’s really rewarding when you see and hear people in the rest of the school talking about how well that teacher’s doing in the classroom.”
